ATP 2022 Sydney and Adelaide2 Previews

Week Two comes at you pretty fast.

Adelaide2 contains at least 15 players who played last week at the same facility along with 6 players coming from Melbourne and the ATP Cup. There are two players in the draw who haven’t yet played in 2022 and weirdly, I like both. Monfils absolutely rolled in week one, dropping only 21 games in four matches en route to winning the title, without really breaking a sweat. He was only broken three times in those matches but most importantly, he broke serve 47% of the time!!! With the draw basically the same whether he wins again or not is probably down to whether he cares (with the Aussie on deck) and how tired he feels at 35 years old.

Sydney is the only event played across these two weeks with any kind of history to look at. The last two times it was run the winners were young guns about to ‘break out’ - De Minaur in 2019 and Meds in 2018 (oddly I had published futures on both and watched the ADM win on my phone while standing on the sidewalk on the Vegas strip). Before those two it was a run of big servers (Delpo, Muller, Tomic). This years draw is very solid, with five guys inside the top 30 and only four guys outside the top 70 (and none of those four will probably be there for long - Andy Murray, Nick Kyrgios and Cressy probably just need a few more matches to correct that; while JT vacilates somewhere between 50-80 depending on the week).

Sydney

One with value, one who I just think has a good draw, from each tourney.
